Erich Maria Remarque (June 22, 1898 - September 25, 1970) was the pseudonym of Erich Paul Remark, a German author.

Remarque was innate within Osnabrück, Germany into a working-class Catholic family. At a age of 18 he went as a soldier to the front of World War I, where he was maimed many days. When the war he worked at a total of different jobs, including bibliothec, man of affairs, teacher, & editor.

Within 1929, Remarque published his best known function, All Quiet on the Western Front (Im Westen nichts Neues), which described the utter cruelty of the war from either the perspective of a nineteen-season-old soldier. a total of similar works followed; within elementary, affectional language it realistically described wartime & the postwar years. He married a Hollywood actress Paulette Goddard within 1958 and it remained married until his demise in 1970.

Within 1948 he returned to Switzerland, in which he spent a rest of his life until his demise at age 72. He is interred within the Ronco graveyard in Ronco, Ticino, Switzerland, where Goddard is too interred.
